Boston Guthi Foundation (“we,” “our,” or “the Foundation”) operates this website to support our community in the Boston area. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our site, create an account, participate in community posts, register for events, or sign in with Google.

Information we collect

Account information. When you register, we may collect your name, email address, username, and a securely hashed password. If you use Google Sign-In, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier from Google—we do not receive your Google password.

Community content. Posts and comments you submit, including text and optional images.

Event information. Registration or volunteer details you provide for Foundation events (for example name, phone, pickup location, or emergency contact). If a volunteer is under 18, we also collect parent or guardian name, phone, email, and consent so planners can reach a parent about volunteer activities. If you turn on event alerts in the installed app, we store a device push subscription so we can notify you when a hosted event you RSVP’d Yes or Maybe to is updated.

Technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) and session cookies used to keep you signed in.

How we use information

• Provide and secure your account and community features
• Moderate community posts and comments
• Manage event registrations and volunteer coordination
• Send transactional emails (for example password reset or event confirmations)
• Send optional event-update alerts to devices where you turned that setting on
• Improve site reliability and respond to support requests

We do not sell your personal information.

Google Sign-In

If you choose “Continue with Google,” authentication is handled by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy. We use the information Google shares with us only to create or access your Foundation account and assign appropriate access (for example community member or full member roles already on file). New Google sign-ups are registered as community members unless a Foundation administrator has already assigned another role to that email address.

Cookies and sessions

We use session cookies to maintain your login state and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may prevent you from signing in or submitting forms.

How we share information

We may share information only when necessary:

• With service providers that help us operate the site (for example email delivery), under confidentiality obligations
• With Google when you choose Google Sign-In (as described above)
• When required by law or to protect the safety of members and the public

Community posts you publish may be visible to other site visitors as intended by the feature.

Data retention

We retain account and community content while your account is active and as needed for Foundation operations, moderation, and legal compliance. You may contact us to request account deletion or correction of inaccurate information.

Security

Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing. Access to administrative and financial areas is restricted by role. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure; please use a strong, unique password if you sign up with email and password.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for a general community audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

• Request a password reset at any time from the login page
• Contact us to update or delete your account information

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the latest version. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
